The Fairview Ski Hill held their annual general meeting (AGM) on Oct. 27. During the meeting, new board members were elected and discussed hiring a seasonal ski hill manager.

President Darian Armstrong reported during the AGM that hill mowing has started but due to breakdowns was still waiting to be completed. The president also reported that they needed to work on recognizing sponsors during the season.

The ski hill will determine what COVID-19 protocols need to be implemented as well as what that will look like for this specific location.

To encourage people to use the outdoor space while eating, the board is looking into making the deck space warmer with the use of heaters.

“We are currently developing a COVID operation plan for the hill, for the chalet and patrons,” Armstrong said. “Right now, we just go off of what Alberta Health Services says and also working with what our local recommendations are.”

The ski hill is looking to hire a seasonal ski hill manager, which is the ski hill’s main priority. This position would run from late fall until early spring and require about 30 hours per week.

The hired individual would be expected to work 10-hour days on “open” days, 4.5 hours on Wednesdays, and 5.5 hours in other duties. Other duties include attending board meetings, errands and scheduling to name a few. Hours are generally flexible besides the days that the ski hill is open.

If interested in applying for the position of season ski hill manager, contact President Armstrong at 780-834-8454 or by email at darian@cyclewest.ca

“Somebody is that looking for seasonal work from about November to the end of March is kind of what we are after,” said Armstrong. “We don’t have anyone right now for the season.”

The ski hill is prioritizing snow making and aims to complete this project before the season begins. The ski hill also plans to keep hosting work bees before the season starts.

The Fairview Ski Hill generally hires every season between 15 and 20 individuals for seasonal work. Those interested can email President Darian Armstrong.
