Between The Sheets February 26th 2020
The club has been rocking this week. Twenty-four Junior and Senior High Teams from across the Northwest Zone came together to curl their hearts out to vy for a medal representing their schools.
Fairview was represented by five teams.
Junior Girls FHS – Calissa Craig, Tanin Pierson, Audrey Nicholson, Darby Peppler. After losing their first game to Sexsmith, these girls plowed through with 4 wins which included defeating Sexsmith twice to win their division by shooting lights out!
Junior Mixed Division STM/FHS joint team skipped by Grace Langell, Jace Whelan, Jillian Hale, Anika Chailler and Rylan Gelsinger finished with a record of 2-2 losing the B Side Semi final to Manning’s Rosary Team.
Cohan James and his FHS Junior Boys team of Reynen Wurz, Kade Ponto and Kashton Wald finished with a record of 2-2 losing the B Semi Final to Rosary Team as well.
Junior Girls STM Team of Camryn Bjornson, Zoey Arkinstall, Paige Whitney, Gracie Drew and Avery Gnam had a record of 0-2.
The Senior High FHS Mixed Team of Jaxon Swift, Emmalee Gelech, Aidan Moss and Meagan Kneeland fell to E.W. Pratt from High Prairie.
All had great games and shots! Congratulations to all of you for representing your schools well.
Our Junior Bonspiel themed ‘Truly Canadian’ was a great day with 11 teams taking part. Garry Leatham piped in the curlers during Opening Ceremonies Friday Evening. We had three divisions of play for different levels. A Gold Medal in Beginner Group went to Deekan Wild, Ryder Ganter, Lane Gross, Christopher Dyer and Sean Hale. A Silver Medal went to Mackenzie Coghill, Dylan Hale, Kelly Halvorson and Nadia Omokanye.
The Novice Group Gold went to Tanin Pierson, Rylan Gelsinger, Jace Whelan and Belen Ayala. Silver to Kaiden and Alexa Bjornson, Zahra Robertson and Chase Pierson.
Senior Group Gold went to Bryn Peppler, Calissa Craig, Darby Peppler and Jillian Hale. Silver to a Grande Prairie Team Boys team.
We have some great little curlers that we expect to see continuing onto representing their schools in the years to come!!
The most important Sportmanship Awards as chosen by their peers went to the Team of Westin, Akita, Amy, Zander and Caleb Giesbrecht. Female award winner was Mackenzie Coghill. Male award went to Dylan from Grande Prairie.
Our ice technicians and kitchen staff have had such a busy week with so many hours put in. We are very grateful to Gord, Ken, Raeleigh, Annike, and Dana and the travel group. They always do a fantastic job!
All our leagues are going into playoffs this coming week. So hard to believe we are at this point already.
Friday Evening February 28th we have a Fun Night planned. Check our Facebook page for more details as they come out. No experience necessary, minimal entry fee. Come on out for a great Friday evening of curling, great appetizers and socializing!
Last event of the season will be a Closing Bonspiel held Mar 13& 14th. Make your plans to take part!!
