Wayne Gretzky’s restaurant and its neighbouring comedy club, The Second City, will celebrate their last summer this year before being replaced by the city’s new condo plans.

The popular sports bar honouring its namesake announced on Thursday it will be here for its last summer after 26 years in business.

“Relocating isn’t off the table yet,” according to Natalie Bitove, Gretzky’s marketing manager.

“What we do know for sure is we’re saying goodbye to our staple location and we want a chance to celebrate our last summer here with all our local supporters.”

To bid it a proper farewell, the restaurant is inviting its customers to share their memories of the restaurant — which first opened in 1993.

Gretzky’s uses #TheLastBucket hashtag, referring to the last summer where the restaurant will get to serve customers their famous buckets of beer.

Lucky diners at the restaurant can sometimes spot and even chat with The Great One’s dad Walter Gretzky.

“Visits from Walter further showcase “family values” that are at the core of the establishment’s beliefs. It’s the little things like this that will make the restaurant missed by many in the city,” said Gretzky’s in a press release.

The restaurant showcases personal memorabilia from Gretzky’s career including his jerseys, photos, hockey sticks, and other items.

Gretzky’s also plays hosts to the Oasis Rooftop Patio treated as an entirely separate restaurant during its operation from May to October.

Meanwhile, the comedy sketch theatre The Second City said Torontonians won’t have to say goodbye to their laughs all together.

The theatre’s location will shut down, but the company announced that unlike its neighbour, it definitely plans to relocate somewhere else in the city.
